Alan Levine
President & Founder, Hybrid Pedals Alan's entrepreneurial journey began when Alan started a successful business addressing a need among on-campus students for an easy way to get their clothes washed or dry cleaned. From then his life has evolved to become a series of entrepreneurial undertakings, each offering its own set of challenges and opportunities to grow. After graduating from college, Alan found himself moving back to the DC area to take over the family business: Mario's Pizza in Arlington, VA. In the late 1980's, Levine was the Vice President of Commercial Operation for Mount Vernon Reality, the largest independent real estate brokerage firm at the time. Branching out from there, he started Doctor Delivery, which was the first restaurant food delivery business in the region, creating a viable business model that companies like Takeout Taxi and others soon copied with great success. In his search for an economical and environmentally friendly delivery platform, Alan discovered the electric bike. Soon afterward, he founded Hybrid Pedals, the premier electric bike store in the Washington, DC area which has become well known for its quality bikes and excellent customer service.

In The News - Hybrid Pedals

Alan Levine, president and CEO of Hybrid Pedals, located in Arlington, is passionate and knowledgeable about electric power-assisted bicycles, or e-bikes.
His first foray into innovative transportation began in 2001 when he started Doctor Delivery, the first restaurant food delivery business in the Washington area. In search of an economical and environmentally-friendly delivery platform, Levine discovered the electric bike. In 2012, he founded Hybrid Pedals. "An electric bike makes sense because it is far more economical than the Metro; it costs a nickel in electricity to charge a battery to go up to 50 miles," Levine says. Among the crowded tents at last month's Clarendon Day festival was the showcase for Hybrid Pedals, the green electric-bike vendor run by idea-a-minute entrepreneur Alan Levine. When I last reported on my boyhood friend, he had just sold Mario's Pizza, his family's business financially kind to him for decades. He then hurled himself into a profit-making role in Arlington's movement to reduce dependency on cars and fossil fuels. Nearly three years, one showroom fire, and hundreds of e-bikes later, the business is humming at a more-inviting location. Though Levine has not realized his vision of outfitting the Arlington Police Department with a fleet of the energy-efficient two-wheelers, I wouldn't count him out. "Sales are up 25 percent over last year," Levine tells me from his shop on N. Kenmore Street packed with brand-name models like Pedago, Easy Motion and A2B. "People are becoming more conscious of them. Levine suffered a blow last March when a fire gutted the inventory at his previous location. "We rose from the ashes and came back stronger and better," says the polished salesman. "We refurbished the damaged bikes and donated some to charity." The Hybrid Pedals board includes high-powered academics and industry bigwigs. (Levine serves on the board of Resilient Arlington, a community group promoting energy preparedness also present at Clarendon Day). This summer, when several Arlingtonians walking the streets fell victim to a sexual attacker, Levine renewed his pitch to the police department. "Imagine a police bike officer in pursuit up Rosslyn Hill," he says.

Alan and the guys at Hybrid Pedals took great care of me.
Alan, John and Nel were great to work with in patiently letting us try out many different bikes and because they had several brands and sizes to choose from in our price range. Thanks again Alan! I have an electric Pedicab tricycle that needed special electrical repair desperately, and Hybrid Pedal's owner Alan Levine and his associate Nelson Waffle took care of my special situation quickly and with out any charge at all and provided me assurances. We met with Alan at his shop; took the metro from our hotel downtown. It was easy to get there. He gave us a tour of the shop and told us about all the cool solar projects he is working on. Really nice guy.Affordable prices and he even picked up the bikes from our hotel when we were done. Alan and his staff were willing to do whatever it takes to make me happy and satisfied with my new bike. Alan, John and Heather were each incredibly gracious and helpful. Alan and his crew at Hybrid Pedals are the best! I was just getting started in the electric bike market when I first went to Hybrid Petals. Alan was low key and didn't push me onto some hot seller or something he was trying to move. He asked what I was looking for and took me right to the style. He had me ride a few different bikes in that style and was totally low pressure. He was great about answering any question, no matter how simple. Said to give him a call or come back if I decided to buy or had any more questions. I was so impressed by his approach ...and his bikes!... that I decided to put a deposit down that day. Then he talked me out of some add on's that I was considering, suggesting I wait until I see what I may want after riding for a while. He was out of stock on the bike that I wanted, other than the demo, and personally emailed me as he received updates on the shipment. It only took a few days to get the bike in and I picked it up today. The personalized service was incredible. This is clearly a guy who wants his customers to be happy. He knows he will sell bikes, its the relationship with the customer that matters to him. I would go back to Hybrid Pedals or send any of my friends there any time! If you are looking for, or just considering an electric bike, go see Alan at Hybrid Petals. You won't be disappointed. I found the owner/manager Al & his staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. Al even showed me You-Tube video from Australia where they are using electric mountain bikes for competitive events. Thank you Alan and staff at Hybrid Pedals Alan answered all my questions and let me test out my bike. It is my sole source of transportation to work so I rely on it quite a bit. It gets into town super fast and back up the hills to go home. He even special-ordered me a seat and grips! If you are considering an electric bike, go see Alan! You won't be disappointed! I came into the store in Arlington Va and I said hey them look like some cool bikes and Alan Levine the president of the of the Hybrid Pedals said go head and take one for a spin.
