Alan Lager

Alan E. Lager is an independent consultant doing business as MLR Associates in Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. Lager has been a leading industry spokesman on configuration and data management for the past 20 years. He is a member of the DOD's Configuration Management Advisory Group, Vice-Chairman of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) Panel on Configuration and Data Management, and is Task Leader for the new Industry CM Standard, IS-649. He is also Vice-Chairman of the CALS/IPT CDM Task Group. An engineering graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, Mr. Lager is the author of many papers and symposia on CM. He is the 1988 recipient of the EIA Engineering Department's "Distinguished Contribution Award" and the 1995 recipient of the E.J. Nucci Award for Engineering Excellence.

An Engineering graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, Alan E. Lager, has been a leading industry Configuration and Data Management spokesman for over thirty years.
He is the Electronics Industries Alliance (EIA) Team Leader for EIA Standard 836, Configuration Management Data Interoperability.He was the team leader and principal author of ANSI/EIA 649, National Consensus Standard for CM.He also authored MIL-HDBK-61, Configuration Management Guidance, and a Data Management Handbook under contract to DoD.Over the years, he has conducted enumerable seminars, tutorials and presentations on all the new perspectives, opportunities and challenges in Configuration and Data Management.
Alan is a past chairman of the EIA's Government Electronics and Information Technology Association (GEIA) G-33 Committee on Data and Configuration Management, was Annual Conference Chairman, and served as Panel Leader twelve times.He is currently a member of GEIA's Systems, Standards and Technology Council, Information Technology Integration Committee, G-33 Data and Configuration Committee, and G-47/34 Systems Engineering/Software Committee.
He represented industry for many years as a member of the DOD's Configuration Management Advisory Group (CMAG) and Data Management Advisory Group (DMAG).Alan was Vice-Chairman of the CALS Industry Steering Group Configuration and Data Management Task Group, served on the National Defense Industry Association (NDIA) CALS Executive Planning Committee, and was a Track Chair at the October 1997 and 1998 CALS Expos.He has been in an industry leadership position with respect to review of every military standard concerning CM and DM related topics since the early 1970's.
Alan has received Distinguished Contribution Awards from both EIA and NDIA.In 1996, EIA presented him with the first E.J. Nucci Memorial Award for "Engineering Excellence and Outstanding Service".
At Grumman Aerospace Corporation, Alan was responsible for policies, procedures, planning and effective implementation of Configuration and Data Management.He provided guidance to Aircraft, Systems, Electronics, Data, Space, Aero-structures, Energy, Postal Van and other Divisions.
He served as a Quality Action Team leader, member of a Process Management Team, and PROCAS team leader/facilitator.He was Grumman's Performance Assessment Review (PAR) team leader for Configuration and Data Management and served as a member of several SEI Software Process Assessment Teams.He also served on proposal "Red teams" for many divisions of the company.
Alan shared his experience by providing comprehensive training to Configuration Management, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Logistics, Procurement, and Program Management personnel, and lectured to SOLE, NDIA, TMSA, and other groups.
His 1968 paper was used as Chapter 1 of Czerwinski and Samaras' "Fundamentals Of Configuration Management" and Samaras' update entitled "Configuration Management Desk Book".
