, Mr Dumbartonshire.
What can you say about this man?
was not only respected in DGU circles but had a presence throughout the Scottish golf scene based on his
common sense, knowledge of the game and above all his
driving support for Dumbartonshire Golf Union
We on the executive miss his
sense of humour and above all his
wisdom on all golf matters.
legacy is there for all to see, DGU
is a better organisation because of him.
Alan Harris has stepped into breach as interim secretary since Alan Jones's
departure and in my opinion has done a magnificent job for the County
Alan W. Jones
It is with deep regret that I have to announce the untimely death of Alan Jones, the Secretary / Treasurer of Dumbartonshire Golf Union.
Alan had been unwell for a short time and passed away peacefully on Tuesday 8th June 2010.
was a staunch supporter of DGU
and fiercely protective of its position in the wider golf community.
was extremely proud of Dumbartonshire players and their achievements, whether it was winning national titles, or when they represented their country.
was particularly proud of their achievement in reaching The Area Team Championship Finals on a number of occasions.
The catchphrase, 'Premier County'
is a tribute to Alan's tenacity in defending DGU
in its position within Scottish Golf
had been a 'Father figure' in Dumbartonshire Golf Union
circles since 1990 and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Alan Jones, Secretary / Treasurer of DGU is unwell at this time.
Alan W Jones
- Hon. Vice President
It is with great pleasure that the Executive announce that Alan W Jones
has been honoured for services to Dumbartonshire Golf union
with the accolade of HON. VICE PRESIDENT.
Alan has been DGU secretary / treasurer since 1990, one of only 8 that DGU has had.
The changing nature of the job is such that Alan
has devoted 24/7 to the position over that period making sure that we have remained at the forefront of Golf in Scotland.
On a very personal note I would like to thank Alan Jones
for his solid bookkeeping and personal guidance throughout the year and Neil Morrison for his unswerving loyalty to me and the executive.
