Prior to actively entering the real estate profession, he
was involved in economic and industrial development work at the community and state level for more than thirty years.
For twenty-five years prior to joining Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty, he was executive vice president of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and executive director of the Athens-Clarke County Industrial Development Authority.
During this period he
was instrumental in helping to build the industrial base of the
community by assisting in locating a number of major industries in the area.

Since joining Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty, Stephenson has assisted in the location of a second facility for Reliance Electric.
Immediately prior to joining Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty, he was responsible for locating and assembling a 1,000-acre tract in
for the development of a major industrial park.
Active in many state and local activities, Stephenson is a past president of the Georgia Economic Development Association, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Executives Association and was an organizer and served for 25 years as the secretary-treasurer of the Northeast Georgia Area Planning and Development Commission.
