Worked with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs to facilitate a process for state agencies to improve their work with the private sector in the design and construction of "green" schools and other public buildings.This involved bringing 30 people from the public sector with 30 people from the private sector and facilitating a dialog among the two groups.Assisted the Environmental Defense's Alliance for Environmental Innovation to find an industrial strategic partner to change boxboard packaging from virgin to recycled, negotiate terms of engagement, and implement the packaging change.
Before becoming a consultant, Mr. Nierenberg served as Vice President of Operations for Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, a 13 store outdoor retailer, where he introduced the first standardized performance evaluations and monthly market analyses by managers.He also initiated plans for a performance-based managers' compensation package and a new inventory practice.
As a Product Manager for James River Corporation, he proposed and introduced over 20 new products, including the Dixie Recycled Line, and headed a cross-functional team in the development and introduction of the Select Design Program
As the General Manager of Ionics' Aqua Cool Enterprises New Jersey operations, he opened and developed two new offices, hired and supervised over 30 employees, and directed sales, distribution, customer service, and collections for the bottled water distribution business.
At Chemical Bank, as the Credit Department Head of a new small business lending unit, he designed the operational structure and systems, as an Account Officer, he managed over 250 small business accounts designing and implementing creative solutions to customers' financial problems.
Mr. Nierenberg has an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and a B.A. from Haverford College.
