GOP picks Austin
to fill vacancy on county commission
02/07/2005 HARPSWELL - Cumberland County Republican Party Chairman Kevin Glynn has announced that Al Austin of Harpswell has been elected the new Cumberland County commissioner for District 3, pending approval from Gov.

is a fiscal conservative and he will work to streamline Cumberland County government and help hold the line on property tax increases," Glynn said.

fiscal priorities, but said it's too early to name his
"My priorities are really yet to be defined," he
will be filling Plummer's unexpired term of office that ends in December 2006.
The election was a three-way race between Austin
of Harpswell, Tom Bartell of Windham, and Debra Plummer of Casco.
Following the selection of Austin
, the county's full Republican caucus endorsed him as its candidate.Austin is the president of CHR Realty on Route 1 in Brunswick.He is past chairman of the Harpswell Board of Appeals and made an unsuccessful run as the Republican candidate for Maine Senate District 10 last year against Democrat Beth Edmonds of Freeport.
