About Hope House - News and Events, 24 Feb 2002 [cached]
In June, Hope House had the opportunity to educate a future Kansas City leader on the issue of domestic violence and the role the broader community can play in addressing this social problem by hosting Akila Raman, a 2002 Coro intern.
Coro is a leadership development program designed to build tomorrow's community leaders today. There are six Coro Centers nationwide including Kansas City. The program has been recognized by Princeton as one of the 10 best internships.
College upperclassmen compete for one of 12 spots in the ten-week intensive summer program. The interns receive specific assignments in five sectors: business, labor, government, media, and nonprofit.
Special thanks goes to Hope House board member Jacqueline Clark for helping place Akila with us and giving us a chance to get a future Kansas City leader involved in breaking the cycle of domestic violence.
