In his speech at the colourful ceremony held in Villa College, College Rector Dr Ahmed Anwar said that 65 students had achieved masters degrees while 80 had achieved bachelor's degrees; inclusive of two Sri Lankan students and one Malaysian student.
The Meritorious Award, which is based on the services made to education, was awarded to the Rector of Villa College, Dr Ahmed Anwar.
Commending the support given by OUM to Villa College, Dr Ahmed Anwar said that it was an honour having the former Prime Minister and the officials of OUM present at the ceremony.
OUM and Villa College made agreements to collaborate on different courses in 2008.
Anwar also said that up to date, 371 students had graduated from Villa College, which had been established six years ago. Villa College being one of the institutions which provides higher secondary education to a majority of Maldivian youth, Anwar added that he had appealed to the education ministry last year to change Villa College to a university.
Chairman of Villa College Gasim said that when the youth are the future of the nation, ways to educate them better must be sought. Youth who can face the societal challenges today are needed, he said.
