THE Police Regional Office 6 in Western Visayas headed by former Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero A. Cruz Jr. has its own best practice up for replication by other police units and offices nationwide: the Persons with Disability or PWD desks and parking spaces.
Cruz, a member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1982, said he will institutionalize the PWD Desk in all police headquarters and stations in Western Visayas where special parking spaces for persons with disabilities will also be put up just like in hotels and shopping centers.
"This is to show our concern for persons with disabilities and to make them feel more comfortable when they go to our offices and stations," he said.
Cruz said the PWD parking space will also enable PWDs with vehicles to easily find a parking space reserved just for them once they go to a police station to request assistance or file a complaint.
He said that PRO6 PWD Desks will be a sort of the Women and Children Protection Desk manned by female police officers trained to handle cases of victims of women and child abuse. This time, the PWD Desk will be manned by officers trained to make PWDs much comfortable in the presence of investigators.
Cruz announced the institutionalization of PWD Desks in all police units in Western Visayas during the launching of the Young Voices Philippines National Campaign in the region which seeks to empower persons with disabilities to speak out on issues and challenges through the new media.

PNP spokesman, Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that only members of the PNP, AFP and law enforcement agencies will be allowed to carry firearms, and even then, they should be in uniform and on duty.
Cruz reminded the PNP personnel not to take the firearm ban for granted, saying they may face penalties if they are caught with their firearms while they are not in uniform or on duty.
