Dr Adrian Graves is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Secretary of the University of Salford. Dr Graves joined the University of Salford as Registrar and Secretary in June 2006. A graduate of the Universities of Adelaide and Oxford, Dr Graves has held academic posts at the Universities of Edinburgh, Adelaide and New South Wales between 1979 and 1989. He taught international economic history and achieved an international reputation for his research on the political economy of the international sugar economy. He joined the University of Adelaide in May 1989 as Head of Admissions, Access and Student Services, subsequently taking up the posts of Academic Registrar, Director of Strategic Planning and Policy and General Manager of New Business Development. Between 1996 and 1998, he was Director of Development of Ngapartji Cooperative Multimedia Centre, an innovative and highly successful collaboration of the private sector, Government and the Universities of South Australia. He holds positions on a number of national and international committees, Trusts and Boards, including HESA, AUA, AHUA Executive, the EUA and the Heads of University Management in Europe.

Adrian was appointed as Registrar & Secretary at the University of Salford in June 2006.He gained a first degree in Economics and History at the University of Adelaide in 1974.He then was awarded first a travelling scholarship and subsequently a Rhodes Fund scholarship to study at Pembroke and St Antony's Colleges, Oxford, from where he was awarded a DPhil in 1979.Dr Graves spent the next ten years as a Lecturer in Economic History at the University of Edinburgh, including one year as a Visiting Scholar at the University of New South Wales.
In 1989 Adrian returned to Australia to take up the post of Head of Admissions Access and Student Services at the University of Adelaide and became Director of Strategic Planning and Policy at the University in 1993.In 1996 he became Director of Development at the Ngapartji Multimedia Centre Pty Ltd before returning to the University of Adelaide as General Manager of New Business Development in 1998.Dr Graves moved back to Scotland as University Secretary at the Robert Gordon University in 2000.

Just before Christmas, the Senate and Council approved the appointment of Dr Adrian Graves as our new Registrar and Secretary.Adrian is currently the Registrar of Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.
Adrian graduated from the University of Adelaide with a degree in history and then obtained a doctorate at Oxford.During the 1980s he was a history lecturer at Edinburgh and then returned to Adelaide to begin his career as an academic administrator.At Adelaide he was Head of Admissions, Access and Student Services and then became Director of Strategic Planning and Policy.In the late 1990s he became Director of Development for a major university-government-business collaborative venture which aimed to promote skills development and the growth of the creative technology industries in Australia, returning to Adelaide to head up that university's activities in the field of external relations and its change management unit.He returned to the UK, to his current post, in 2000.
