buzznigeria.com [cached]

Adams Oshiomole, former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), took the big step into politics when he won a landslide victory for a second term as the Governor of Edo State in Nigeria on the platform of the Action Congress in 2007.
Early Life Born Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole on April 4, 1952, in Itamoh, a small community near Auchi, Edo State, Oshiomole grew up as a Muslim but was converted to Christianity by his late wife Clara, who died of cancer at the age of 54 in the year 2010. Under Adams, the union was well managed and eventually acquired investments in real estate and generated a cash reserve that is more than what many state governments can boast of. Oshiomole is known for leading a nationwide strike against high oil prices in Nigeria. He had fought for the reversal of pump price increases introduced by President Obasanjo leading strikes and demonstrations against the increases. He was persecuted for his relentless moves against the then government concerning the fuel crisis. It had been alleged in October 2009 that the Labour leader was forcefully abducted by State Security Services during a protest, but the Nigerian government had said he submitted to voluntary custody. Although drama ensued in 2007 when Oshiomole ran for Edo State Governorship, he succeeded in the end. Oshiomole under the Action Congress (AC) party contested for the gubernatorial elections in Edo State, but was said to have lost the election initially to People's Democratic Party's (PDP) Oserheimen Osunbor. Five years after the death of his first wife, Adams Oshiomole on May 15, 2015 tied the knot with Lara Fortes, an Ethiopian model.

Oshiomole Backs Sanusi On Reduction of Public Officers | Nigerian Orient News

The governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole on Thursday called on the Federal Government to slash its overhead personnel costs for public officers by 50 percent.
Mr Oshiomole told a gathering in Abuja that the Central Bank Governor (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi's call for a reduction in the high cost of recurrent expenditure is not wrong however, the cut should be made from the excess spending of government officials and not the wages of workers. He argues that the nation cannot continue to invest 80 percent of its budget on travel expenses of leaders and end up borrowing the remaining 20 percent left for capital projects. Mr Oshiomole was speaking against the backdrop of the recent outrage sparked by Mr Sanusi's call for a 50 percent downsizing of civil servants to reduce government spending.

Making Advertising Campaigns Guarantee Brand Success… | BrandPower

Adams Oshiomole, the present Governor of Edo State must have realized this hard lesson when he dumped his beloved Labour Party and joined the then Action Congress to contest the Edo State governorship election in 2007.
The Action Congress had a much better distribution and sales structure than the Labour Party in Edo; so coupled with Oshiomole's existing socio-political brand attributes, his advertising campaigns contributed effectively to his victory at the polls.

Meanwhile Edo State governor and former labour leader, Adams Oshiomole has vowed to lead protests against his colleagues if any of them fails to pay the minimum wage.
I will not only join to protest against refusal to pay minimum wage, but to press for the idea of minimum wage to be sustained," Oshiomole said.

And reaffirming the shocking details of massive looting and alleged endemic corruption of the last administration, Mr. Adams Oshiomole, former Labour Leader and current governor of Edo State with whom the president recently toured the US told journalists who accosted him at the Presidential villa in Abuja: "the PDP destroyed this country.
I mean from the lips of American officials; senior officials in the State Department said one minister under PDP cornered as much as $6 billion. The man said even by Washington standards this is earth shattering. Oshiomole was quoting Johnny Carson, who is no Johnny-just-come to Nigerian affairs.
