Adam Tillis, the founder of the company, is an entrepreneur as well as a pioneer in the life settlements industry, having established one of the earliest viatical companies with institutional funding. Adam began his career in insurance in 1978 with USF&G as a Property/Casualty underwriter. In 1984, he went on to work as an Excess and Surplus Lines Underwriter for Washburn Associates in Minneapolis, which specialized in liquor liability and special event coverage. He then became Underwriting Manager for Ben-Ezra Associates, an Anchorage based specialty risk Managing General Agency.
Adam founded ViatiCare Financial Services, Ltd in 1993. ViatiCare was the first institutionally funded settlement company, working with Cargill Financial Services to develop a $600 million revolving funding facility. After selling his interest in the company in 1998, Adam went on to develop several niche market prepaid products for retail distribution, including specialty programs for the islands of Guam, Saipan and other areas of the Pacific. Adam subsequently developed the first prepaid internet access product available for retail distribution called Slingshot. Slingshot became the largest alternative dial up ISP provider and was eventually sold to a group of Microsoft engineers in 2001.
Recognizing the changes in the viatical and life settlement industry, Adam worked with the brokerage firm What Matters For Life to provide a structure within which geographically neglected areas could access the benefits of life settlements. From this, Adam founded Life Settlement Services in 2004 to develop the newly developing wholesale side of the industry. By 2009, Adam focused LSS in the portfolio exchange space.
