Adam Darkins is Vice President of Medical Affairs and Enterprise Technology Development for Medtronic's Americas Region. In this role, he supports the ongoing patient-centric development of Medtronic's existing technologies and focuses on creating new products and services that will transform the patient care experience.
Prior to joining Medtronic in 2014, Darkins spent more than 11 years at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he helped create national telehealth platforms that expanded access to health care and delivered more than 2 million episodes of care to 720,000 patients annually. He also pioneered a telehealth/connected health platform that reduced hospital admissions by 19 percent and associated bed days of care by 25 percent, with high levels of patient satisfaction.
Darkins is a world leader in using information and telecommunication technologies to transform health care organizations to be more efficient, effective and reduce costs of care. His work includes clinical process re-engineering, systems redesign and project management in the United States and United Kingdom. He has worked as a medical director in the UK National Health Service; on policy development at the King's Fund in London; as a neurosurgeon in London; and researched cognitive and motor function changes associated with Parkinson's disease at UCLA.
Darkins received his master's degree in public health medicine from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is based in Washington, D.C.
