After serving for 36 years in Hindi media ministry, on August 26, 2014 Stephen Paul passed the mantle of leadership to Dr. A.K. Lama.
...
"Dr. Lama, from northeast India, brings a depth of educational background and wealth of ministry experience. Joining this ministry will help him carry out his vision of expanding the scope of Gospel media proclamation around India."
Dr. A.K. Lama earned his Ph.D. in Old Testament from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Samford University's Beeson Divinity School-both in the USA. He is founder and director of Transforming Leaders in Asia, a ministry that equips and disciples Christian workers. He recently completed a five-year term as general secretary of the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI) which encompasses 7000 churches.
Dr. Lama's Journey to Faith
His journey to the Christian faith and ministry began several years ago. A.K. was born in Nalanda, India, the third child of parents who came to India from Tibet.
...
A.K. began to understand that Jesus was indeed the only true Savior and God, but it was still very difficult for him to embrace the Christian faith. "My fear of persecution and the cost of discipleship postponed my decision for Christ. In my home state, Christianity is an illegal religion. Persuading anyone to convert to Christianity, or converting yourself without the approval of the government, is punishable by law."
But in October 1983, during an evening fellowship meeting, the Spirit of God convicted A.K. "I felt the awesome presence of God, and stood up with tears in my eyes. There was no more fear, but only a desire to follow Jesus Christ for the rest of my life."
Serving in Media Ministry
Dr. Lama is well-known as an evangelical leader throughout India. Working with Back to God Ministries, and our partners in India, Good Books Ministries and Words of Hope, is a good fit. "I am excited about the primacy of the preaching of the Word of God and our commitment to taking the Gospel to unreached places," says Dr. Lama. "The Gospel is the power of God. I have experienced it, and I have seen many lives transformed."
Dr. Lama sees the power of media ministry for sharing the Gospel. He also sees the value of expanding outreach through new media.

Rev. Dr. A.K. Lama was raised in a Tibetan Buddhist family. While he was studying science, he came in contact with some Christians students whose sincere love and witness attracted him to study the Bible. For 2 years he studied the Word of God, but it was very difficult for him to embrace Christianity because of fear. In his home state of Arunachal Pradesh in northesat India, Christianity is forbidden and conversion is punishable under the law. He accepted Christ in 1983. After graduation he served as a veterinary assistant surgeon for 5 1/2 years. In 1990 he resigned and became a fulltime campus minister with the Union of Evangelical Students of India. A.K. is a member of the BWA Commission on Theological Education and Leadership Development, and an executive member of the National Council of Churches in India. He is married and has 3 children.
