A.J. Balukoff for Governor
...
By A.J. Balukoff
...
Otter treats his job like he's in semi-retirement," Balukoff said.
...
"Gov. Otter's M.O. is to take credit when other people do something well, take cover when one of his insider deals for big campaign donors is revealed, and take Mondays off," Balukoff said.
Amid persistent reports that Gov. Otter has been in the habit of not putting in a full workweek for a large part of his second term, Balukoff said, "we decided to do our homework and look into the truth of this."
...
"We were generous in evaluating his on-the-job commitment," Balukoff said. "We included his commute in his 'travel time,' and most people don't get paid to commute to work."
Balukoff released the detailed, day-by-day analysis of Otter's official calendar for 2013 to media. It includes appointments such as a Wednesday, June 5, 2013, "massage at ranch."
"Who's running the governor's office, anyway? Balukoff said.
...
"He then never bothered to show up for even one meeting, not even to outline the task force's mission," Balukoff said. "He calls that making education his top priority?"
"My campaign slogan is work hard, tell the truth, and put people first," Balukoff said. "Given Gov. Otter's shameful record of favors for his big campaign donors and how he ducks questions about those scandals, Idahoans have long had reason to question whether their governor tells the truth and puts people first. Now we see that he's not very big on working hard, either."
"Tuesday's election is a referendum on Gov. Otter's job performance," Balukoff said.
...
"As a successful businessman and the longtime leader of the Boise School Board, A.J. knows that a sound educational system is the engine room of true economic expansion. If you care about Idaho's future, you know we have to invest in our children by providing the best educational system we can. A.J. knows that is the key to Idaho's future. A.J. also knows one of the keys to my success as governor was an ability to bring people together and transcend partisan differences by leading people to focus on the greatest good for the greatest number."
...
This has to stop and A.J. will stop it.
Won't you join with me in voting for A.J. Balukoff to be our next governor?
...
A.J. Balukoff represents the potential for a renewed bright future for Idaho - he's dynamic and, most of all, willing to act. It's past the time for a change. Please consider Mr. Balukoff for our next governor.
...
A.J. Balukoff understands that successful companies treat employees well. Like most superintendents and principals I know, I am voting for A.J. for governor."
...
"Having recently retired from a 30-year career in the Boise School District, I had the privilege of working closely with A.J. Balukoff. As president of the Boise District Board of Trustees, he displayed the highest level of integrity and expertise. His leadership in opposing the Luna laws reflected his support of dialogue as a crucial element in decision-making and his support of local control of schools. A.J. understands the critical role of education in the future of a healthy Idaho."
...
But it is with enthusiasm that I endorse A.J. Balukoff's bid to be Idaho's next governor," said Evans.
...
"It's a great honor to be endorsed by Jerry Evans, who is widely considered one of the best state school superintendents that Idaho has ever had," Balukoff said.
...
BOISE, Idaho-Democratic gubernatorial candidate, A.J. Balukoff released his official debate schedule.
...
While he may try to distract the debates away from his eight year record, I intend to focus on the issues critical to moving our state forward: better schools, creating good-paying jobs, and restoring trust and accountability to state government," said Balukoff.
Balukoff will participate in the following debates:

His enduring legacy will be carried on by his friends and family, and I wish them well," Balukoff said.

...
In an age in which most politicians can only talk, A.J. leads. His accounting firm handled our family's finances with perfect integrity. His leadership on the Boise School Board made the district one of the best in the nation. His personal life reflects traditional Idaho values. He works hard, and is a good listener. In short, A.J. Balukoff is the kind of principled leader that Idaho has lacked. As a lifelong Republican, I have never endorsed a member of the other party, but I am this year because A.J. Balukoff is honest, experienced, knowledgeable, and leads with a style that seeks consensus, not ideology."

"I am traveling the state to hear directly from Idahoans and learn about the issues that are most important to them," said Balukoff. "You are the experts in your communities. No one knows the local needs better than those who live and work here everyday."
Balukoff announced his candidacy for governor in December 2013. He is running on education, economy and transparency in government.
Sixteen years as an elected member of the Boise School Board provides Balukoff the experience to guide Idaho's education system that he believes has deteriorated under the current state leadership. In addition to Balukoff's work with education, he brings decades of business and financial management expertise, which will help build his strategy to attract businesses and grow Idaho's economy.
"It is important to me and the future of Idaho that our kids and families are offered every opportunity to succeed and that starts with a good education," said Balukoff. "I learned early on the importance of education from my father who tackled many challenges with only an eighth grade education."
The CPA firm that Balukoff began in his home grew into a successful business career that helped build the local economy and created hundreds of Idaho jobs. He continues to offer his leadership to many organizations as a board member, including St. Luke's Health System and statewide nonprofits.

A.J. Balukoff for Governor
...
"According to the governor's office, the investments advisory board that he was authorized to appoint as of July 1 still has not been appointed," Balukoff said.

Now we see that he's not very big on working hard, either."
"Tuesday's election is a referendum on Gov. Otter's job performance," Balukoff said.
...
Otter has spent about $10,000 on a radio ad now playing on stations in eastern Idaho that was deliberately made to sound as if it's coming from my campaign, but it's not," Balukoff said.
...
"Gov. Otter should either publicly denounce this ad and ask the group paying for it to remove the ad from the air, or we can only believe that he endorses its deliberate deception," Balukoff said.
...
Balukoff again called on Otter to make public all records pertaining to the CCA case, a request to which the governor has yet to respond.
...
Otter to immediately release to the public and the media all records pertaining to the CCA case," Balukoff said.
...
But as reported recently in a news story, while the state could still pursue criminal charges against CCA, under the settlement agreement, the state could not seek damages for "what could be millions of dollars that CCA stole from Idaho taxpayers," Balukoff said.
...
If the FBI finds that CCA defrauded the state of millions of dollars, the state will not be able to pursue CCA for civil damages," Balukoff said today. "He abandoned his responsibilities as governor and now he's hiding behind his staff. Gov. Otter can't recuse himself just because he took campaign contributions from this corporation. He still has to be the governor."
"It's now very clear: His deal with CCA put the interests of this big campaign donor of his ahead of the interests of the people of Idaho," Balukoff said.
...
"Gov. Otter has said several times that he had nothing to do with the sweetheart deal cut with his campaign donor, CCA, that let the company off the hook for only $1 million when it's possible CCA defrauded the state for many millions," Balukoff said.
...
"The voters of Idaho are seeing the true face of Butch Otter, and discovering that he has become just another politician who's beholden to his big campaign donors at the expense of the people he's supposed to defend as governor," Balukoff said.
...
"Gov. Otter has bungled this debacle badly, and now there's very good reason to suspect criminal wrongdoing at some level in state government," Balukoff added.
...
"We learned today that the company that accuses the Otter administration of illegally awarding that $60 million contract to an Otter campaign supporter wants to settle its lawsuit against the state for $17.4 million," Balukoff said. "And we also learned that state officials are involved in backroom negotiations with that company to settle this case and keep everything secret."
"Gov. Otter's incompetence in his role as guardian of taxpayer dollars is shocking," Balukoff said.
...
Otter unfit for a third term in office," Balukoff said.
...
"The most disturbing new revelation may be that Otter administration officials are involved in negotiations with this company to keep details of what happened in this deal secret," Balukoff said.
...
Balukoff also criticized the governor for hiring an outside law firm to handle this lawsuit for the state instead of using the attorney general's staff. The legal bill alone for this case has already run to $762,952 since 2010.

"You can hire about 15 new teachers in Idaho just with what has been spent so far on the legal tab for this scandal," Balukoff said.

"By misrepresenting my views, Otter makes one point very clear: He knows he will lose if he tries to run on his own, terrible record," said Balukoff.
...
And, after 40 years in politics, he doesn't want people to remember that his own campaign is top-loaded with high paid lobbyists who represent private prisons, the Luna Laws, and major out-of-state contractors who live off of Idaho government contracts," said Balukoff.
"The truth is, I support both the United States and Idaho Constitutions, including equal protection under the law, freedom of religion, right to bear arms, and the responsibility of the State to provide a uniform and thorough education for all of Idaho - the mandate he continues to overlook year after year," said Balukoff.
