Who is Africa Health Agenda International Conference

Currently Amref Health Africa implements its Strategy 2007-2017 through the Corporate Business Plan 2011-2014, 'Transforming Communities from within by Improving the Health of Women and Children'. Health priorities are refocused on improvement of women and children's health based on three health systems building blocks: Human Resources for Health (HRH); Community Systems Strengthening (CSS); and Health Management Information Systems (HMIS), and with an enforced focus on advocacy, research and documentation. The organisation currently implements more than 160 programmes and projects through its offices in the Eastern, Horn, Western and Southern regions of Africa with an aim to: Making pregnancy safe and expanding reproductive health Reducing morbidity and mortality among children Scaling up HIV, TB and malaria responses Prevention and control of diseases related to water, sanitation and hygiene Increasing access by disadvantaged communities to quality medical, surgical and diagnostic services Developing a strong research and innovation base to contribute to health improvement in Africa To strengthen health systems, Amref Health Africa is focused on increasing the number of well-qualified health workers; improving HMIS at both the community and national level; and improving the quality and efficiency of health care. We provide training, medical outreach services and technical assistance to local authorities and ministries of health in over 30 countries in Africa. We have trained and upgraded skills of thousands of health workers in Africa using Innovative technology such as the e and m-learning programmes to accelerate training and fill the gap in the health workforce. Amref Health Africa's work in Capacity Building is supported by a strong team of health professionals both at our International Training Centre located at our Headquarters and at the various Country programmes.
