Who is Flight Attendants Association of Australia

The FAAA senior leadership and senior Qantas officials have held a series of intensive discussions over the last several weeks in an effort to reach an acceptable agreement regarding the Company's announced public position to have unlimited overseas based crew and to discuss the issues surrounding Qantas' intention to establish a London overseas base. Those of you who attended the series of FAAA meetings would know that the membership has endorsed a position that an acceptable cap on overseas-based crew is essential and that Long Haul crew must be protected from forced redundancies. The FAAA has gone to extraordinary lengths to avoid confrontation with Qantas. However Qantas is refusing to provide any guarantees or job security for Long Haul crew. It seems clear to us that Qantas seems more concerned with providing job security for future potential overseas based crew rather than to their existing, loyal Australian crew. It is astounding that in light of a record profit for Qantas that, dare I say it, the "recognition" that Long Haul crew receive from management is the exporting of their jobs overseas coupled with a real threat to their terms and conditions of employment. The FAAA will now continue its campaign against unlimited crew based overseas. We take this opportunity to once again remind those few crew contemplating the so called London "offer" not to accept a position that is substantially inferior to your current conditions. We remind crew that the FAAA will not be in a position to offer assistance to anyone who accepts the London "offer" whilst you are based in London. There will be no recognition of seniority for the period of LWOP (leave without pay) for those taking up the "offer". Further, it may be the case that anyone taking up the London "offer" may not be entitled to any seniority upon return i.e. they will return as the most junior cabin crew member. The FAAA is obtaining legal advice in relation to this issue. The FAAA does not support in any way the London "offer" because it is inadequate ...Read more
