CMSgt Jeanne T. Gartner, USAF (ret) is currently the Vice President / Owner / Director of e-Commerce and Website Administration for Reed Brothers Dodge, Inc in Rockville, Maryland.
CMSgt Gartner is a graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory of Music where she earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 1972. She received and Artist Diploma from the Conservatoire National de Region de Bordeaux, in Bordeaux, France in 1974. While there, she studied with world-renowned saxophonist, Jean-Marie Londeix. She later received a Master of Music Performance from The Catholic University of America in 1975.
She served in The United States Air Force Band in Washington, DC for 30 years before retiring on July 1, 2006. During her 30 years of service, Chief Gartner served The United States Air Force Band in many capacities. She was initially hired in July of 1976 as an alto saxophonist with the Concert Band and has performed in all 50 of the United States.
In 1985, she went on to work in the Band’s Music Production Section where she became the first female Chief of Music Production. Prior to joining The United States Air Force Band, she worked as a free-lance music autographer, hand-copying music for publication. Chief Gartner has more than 30 years experience in Music Preparation and has provided professional music copying / engraving services for some of the largest publishers in the world and hundreds of performers from the radio, television, film, and recording industries. Chief Gartner has prepared parts and full scores for prominent artists, such as Roy Clark, Wynonna Judd, Chaka Khan, Keiko Matsui, Rita Coolidge, Kirk Whalum, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Rita Coolidge, Patti Page, and Melba Moore. In addition, she worked for Capitol Music Corporation typesetting and engraving scores and parts for performance and publication. She is well versed in the intricacies of music notation and copying standards and is a Finale music notation expert. She began using Finale in 1991 on one of the original versions of 2.6.1. She currently works as an outsource music engraver / copyist for The United States Air Force Band in Washington, DC.
In 2003, Chief Gartner became the first female Band Manager of The United States Air Force Band. As senior enlisted leader, she oversaw personnel and manpower, and effective utilization of 232 enlisted members who perform the most visible ceremonial / civic outreach missions in the Air Force. She advised the Commander on matters relating to personnel acquisitions, policies, readiness, and troop morale and welfare.
Chief Gartner participated in eight Presidential Inaugural Parades, most recently marching at the front of the formation with the officer staff for the 55th Presidential Inauguration. She has had the distinct honor of being the only enlisted leader to march in the Officer’s position leading the Air Force Ceremonial Brass in the 2006 Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Washington, DC. Chief Gartner is also the first female Chief Master Sergeant to retire from The United States Air Force Band with over 30 years of active service.
Chief Gartner’s military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with eight oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one silver star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters, United States Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, and the Air Force Training Ribbon.
