Mr. LUCIANO BENTENUTO

Mr. Bentenuto joined the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) in 1986. He has worked as a Correctional Officer and worked his way through the ranks working at the Special Handling Unit, maximum, medium and minimum security institutions before becoming an Institutional Federal Parole Officer and later within the Community setting with the Intensives Supervision Program, during the Biker war in Montreal..
In 1999, Mr. Bentenuto was the first member of the Correctional Service of Canada to be seconded to the Criminal Intelligence Service of Canada as National Project Manager for the Gangs portfolio. In 2002, he returned to CSC and joined the Intelligence Unit of the Security Branch as their National Project Manager, Organized crime/Criminal Gangs. Today Mr. Bentenuto is the Deputy Director for Tactical Intelligence Unit within the Security Branch at National Headquarters and responsible for the Organized Crime portfolio.
Mr. Bentenuto completed his Police Science degree at John Abbott College before obtaining his Criminology degree from the University of Ottawa. He was also the President of the Professional Criminologist Association of Quebec and is still an active member of the International Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Investigators Association as well as the National Major Gang Task Force.
Mr. Bentenuto has been awarded the Corrections Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada. He also received a Commendation Award from the Commissioner of Corrections in recognition for his outstanding commitment to the enhancement of working relationships among CSC and its partners in the criminal justice system, both Nationally and Internationally.
Furthermore, Mr. Bentenuto has lectured extensively in North America and has had several articles published in police and corrections publications in North America. For the past 20 years he has addressed thousands of law enforcement officials across the country and continues to be in demand on the international scene. He has represented Canada in Tapachula, Mexico and Washington D.C. before the special committee on Transnational Organized Crime of the Organization of Americas States and also represented Canada before the International Committee for the Reduction of Drug Consumption (CICAD) in Guatemala & the Dominican Republic.
IN addition, Mr. Bentenuto has appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights as a subject matter expert on Gangsterism issues in Canada. Finally, Mr. Bentenuto has also represented our country at the G8 Summit in Berlin Germany, as the subject matter expert regarding Terrorism and Radicalization within the prison system.
