Sergey Shibakin was born in April 23, 1949 in Nikitskoe village near Moscow.
After graduating from the Domodedovo Secondary School Number 2 he entered Hydraulic Engineering Construction Faculty of the Moscow State Institute of Civil Engineering (MGSI) in 1966.
Graduated from MGSI in 1971 he was employed by Orgenergostroy Institute where he was dealing with engineering and technical support of water objects construction. He started at the position of simple engineer and came up to the chief project engineer.
In 1980 he was employed by VNIPImorneftegaz and got a position of Chief Project Designer. He laid down foundation for creation of man-made island type structure, ice-resistant gravity and piled gravity platforms for Arctic shelf. He authored some calculation methods of gravity and piled gravity platforms' strength and stability and of environmental factors' influence on offshore structures.
In 1994 he defended successfully a thesis in "Interaction of gravity basements of ribbed structures and submerged soil".
In 1996 he was employed by VNIIGAZ Ltd. By that time there was an Offshore Oil-Gas Fields' Centre. He worked at construction of marine oil and gas exploration water plants. In 1999 he defended a thesis in "Scientific and methodological principles of ice-resistant offshore gravity platforms' construction for shelf oil-and-gas fields development ".
In 2005 - 2007 Sergey Shibakin worked for petroleum company "Lukoil" as a Head of Hydrotechnic Department. He was dealing with engineering and building of offshore facilities in Caspian and Pechora Sea.
At present time Sergey Shibakin is employed by "Sevmorneftegaz" Ltd. and works as a Deputy Manager of Marine Exploitation Complex Facilities Department at the Shtokman field development project.
He is awarded the sign of "USSR Inventor" for his active inventive work and implementation of inventions in national economy.
He is also awarded the medal of "300 years of Russian Fleet" and the honorary sign "70 years of North Fleet" for his work at construction of equipment for Arctic and World ocean field development.
He has two children, both a son and daughter, Anya Hansson who is married and has one son and Roman Shibakin.
