Description
Menlo Forwarding established its presence in Europe in April 1955 when the company opened its first non-US office in London to handle its growing international business, which then consisted almost entirely of imports from the US to the UK. Since then, Menlo Forwarding's operations have been substantially expanded. Under the supervision of vice president Peter Brougham, Menlo Forwarding operates within Europe an international sortation hub in Brussels, Belgium and oversees a network of 61 offices plus agent locations in 52 countries.
Today Menlo Forwarding's headquarters for Europe, the Middle East and Africa are based at London's Heathrow Airport having recently returned to the original site at Heathrow where the company's European operations began 45 years ago.
Menlo Forwarding manages eight logistics centers within Europe, in addition to a number of regional "QuickSource" operations. The services provided include dedicated or multi-user warehousing, inventory management, "pick-and-pack," limited fiscal representation and other value-added services for local, regional and international distribution to its global customers.
On February 1, 2000, Menlo Forwarding opened its first European combined freight processing and multi-user, multi-purpose logistics "SuperCentre," located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. With 8,000 square meters of space, the "SuperCentre" is located within Amsterdam's new dedicated airport freight area at Schiphol East. The company's long-term plans call for opening similar combined freight and logistics facilities in other strategic locations throughout Europe. The second new "SuperCentre" opened in mid-February, 2000, following Menlo Forwarding's conversion of its 30,000 square meter logistics center at Eersel, near Eindhoven, and with the addition of 10,000 square meters of freight processing capacity.
The latest addition to Menlo Forwarding's product offerings in Europe is the "Second Day" time-definite two-day delivery service for heavyweight shipments throughout Europe, which started on September 1, 1999. Menlo Forwarding Second-Day is available to most major towns and cities in 20 countries - Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, the UK, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Czech Republic and Turkey. The Second-Day service builds on the success of Menlo Forwarding's 'Gold Priority Express' guaranteed heavyweight delivery service operated between North America and origination points throughout Europe.
