Description

Safe Kids Canada, the national injury prevention program of The Hospital for Sick Children, continues to be a leader in knowledge translation in the field of injury prevention. We promote and implement evidence-based strategies to reduce the risk of unintentional injury, the leading cause of death and disability among Canadian children. Through a wide range of services and partnerships, we work by raising public awareness regarding injury risk and preventive action, providing quality resources in both English and French, and advocating for changes that will create safer environments for children.

2001-02 saw a significant increase in new programs, public policy and advocacy initiatives, national partnerships and human resources at Safe Kids Canada. We are most appreciative to The Hospital for Sick Children, The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation and our sponsors for their ongoing commitment and support of our goals and initiatives.

For the past eight years Sonya Corkum, Executive Director, has provided vision and leadership in building a strong foundation on which the organization continues to thrive. In May 2002, Sonya accepted the position of Vice President, Partnerships and Knowledge Translation with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research in Ottawa. We offer our very best wishes for her continued success in this new and challenging endeavour. As of this report, a new Executive Director is expected to be appointed in the very near future.
