Description
AusBulk now owns and operates a network of 113 country silos and seven export terminals in South Australia and Victoria. This network has a total storage capacity of 10 million tonnes and is more than capable of handling South Australia's entire grain crop.

AusBulk employs about 500 permanent staff and of those up to 150 are based in its Adelaide head office. A further 300 casual staff are regularly utilised, but during the peak of harvest (November to January) this number is usually boosted by another 750 casual workers.

While AusBulk's core business is logistics and the storage and handling of grain, the acquisitions in 2002 of the Adelaide Malting Company and Joe White Maltings in 2003 were an important step in AusBulk's goal to diversify and vertically integrate, into a company which is involved with first stage grain processing and distribution of grain products.

AusBulk supports industry development through a range of initiatives, including adoption of new technology among its grower shareholders to increase productivity. The company also sponsors the Chair in Plant Breeding at the University of Adelaide.

AusBulk is presently an unlisted public company. A holding company - United Grower Holdings - formed in 2000, has an effective controlling interest.

UGH's constitution restricts share ownership to active grain growers ensuring that grain growers' control of AusBulk is not diluted.

AusBulk's board comprises six grain grower directors representing UGH, a managing director and up to three appointed directors. UGH directors are elected by SA grain growers.
