Description
Carolina Ceramics Brick Company, a leading manufacturer of architectural and residential face brick, brick pavers, and firebrick, has recently completed a $25 million plant expansion that has enabled the company to double its brick-making capacity from 40 million bricks per year to 80 million per year. A grand opening celebration has been set for Tuesday, October 11, at the plant located at 9931 Two Notch Road in Columbia, South Carolina.

The expansion, part of a long-range plan developed by president and owner, Michael W. Borden, includes the addition of the world's largest brick robot, a second Ceric, Inc. kiln, a new automatic setting machine, 60 new kiln cars, a new dryer, a new tunnel kiln, a 30,000 square-foot grinding plant, a complete automated car handling system, and an automatic kiln car cleaner. Automated equipment will provide consistency and enhance quality when batching brick. Each hand-blended Carolina Ceramics brick exhibits through-the-body color, which will continue to provide a consistent look even after years of weathering.

"This multi-million dollar investment has allowed us to improve and enhance our product line and expand our capacity," commented Borden. "Our architect and builder customers have asked for more colors and new products, and we have responded! These improvements were essential to maintaining and expanding our position as one of the leading brick manufacturers in the nation."

South Carolina's clay allows Carolina Ceramics to offer an unrivaled color palette. Over the years, these hand-blended, rich colors have always been in great demand, especially in northern states where lighter color brick is considered unique. But beauty isn't all Carolina Ceramics brick is known for"one of Carolina Ceramics' most famous assignments was to be a supplier for The Empire State Building. Literally thousands of buildings and homes across the country stand as testaments to the enduring quality of Carolina Ceramics brick.

"We're proud that we can offer brick that's out of the ordinary," commented Denise Whittington, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Carolina Ceramics. "As a result of our recent expansions, we're taking our products and services to the next level."
