Summary

Description
Gleanings is a remarkably efficient organization with a paid staff of one and a small group of hard working and dedicated volunteers that help receive, unload, sort, inventory and package food for pickup by member organizations. Even with a very lean operating budget, we still need almost $150,000. a year to do our job. Many donated items have transportation costs, as items are made available at greatly reduced prices through food diverters and reclamation centers far away from Galveston. Many necessary food items still must be purchased - albeit at discounted rates - to insure a steady supply of healthy food throughout the year. And it costs money to store, refrigerate, and freeze food carefully and safely. Gleanings depends on the generous financial commitment of donors locally and regionally to help us feed the hungry in Galveston.

We are now equipping our warehouse. We need material handling equipment, refrigeration & freezer units and dependable vehicle(s) for pick up and delivery.

We need corporate underwriters who can help with operational costs and individuals, civic organizations, clubs and foundations willing to underwrite our budget, so that we can purchase and deliver even more food items to the groups who feed the hungry.

On an ongoing basis, we will need additional volunteers to help receive, unload, sort, inventory and package food and to notify member organizations about items.
