Capitol Bancorp Ltd. (Capitol) is a bank holding company that provides its customers with banking, trust and other financial services and products. These services include commercial banking through 60 subsidiary banks, as well as trust services, mortgage origination and servicing, equipment leasing, brokerage and investment advisory services, property and casualty insurance, brokerage services, life insurance and annuity products, and portfolio management services through subsidiary banks and other subsidiaries. As of December 31, 2007, 51 of Capitol's banking subsidiaries were state-chartered banks, while six of its depository institution subsidiaries are chartered as federal savings banks.
