Description
Founded to foster artistic expression at the grass roots level, the Harmony Film Festival works to promote peace and harmony within our society through the medium of film.
The festival was founded by Mehrzad Mumtahan, an artist and filmmaker in 2003 who along with a small group of volunteers have worked tirelessly to bring it to fruition.
The first year's festival in 2004, was a huge success with 28 entries and over 700 people attending the Sydney screening night, multiple interstate screenings, a DVD compilation, radio interviews, plenty of media coverage and fantastic public feedback.
In 2005 things just got bigger, with more international entries, lots of publicity, more events and another huge successful opening night. With the theme of "Woman", entries came from as far afield as the USA, Japan and Russia.
As Australia's premiere non-profit film festival, the Harmony Film Festival has successfully created a platform for professional and emerging filmmakers to discuss social issues that are important and relevant in today's world. In order to develop and train budding filmmakers the festival organises annual film camps where industry professionals conduct various workshops in filmmaking and as part of its commitment to outback Australia the festival travels to remote communities where training in film and video is provided for the empowerment of Aboriginal teens.
The Harmony Film Festival is inspired by the teachings of the Baha'i Faith - one of the world's youngest global religions which teaches the oneness of humanity, the oneness of religion and the oneness of God.
