The downtown Los Angeles firm of Torti Gallas and Partners is a 2006 recipient of two Charter Awards from the Congress for the New Urbanism, an American Institute of Architects Honor Award in Regional and Urban Design and the Residential Architect magazine Project of the Year Award. Torti Gallas' Los Angeles office, located at 523 West 6th Street in the Pacific Center Building, opened in September of 2005 and provides its West Coast clients with the same high-quality architecture, urban design and planning services currently provided through its East Coast office. Their project focus is on urban residential and mixed-use projects, transit-oriented design, and urban design for emerging town and city centers.
The Los Angeles office is headed by firm principals Neal Payton, AIA and Chuck Coleman, RA. In addition, the 15-person office includes Feng Xiao, AIA, a Mixed-Use/Residential Design Principal who recently relocated from the Maryland office; Dimitris Klapsis, a Senior Associate with more than 15 years of experience in residential, mixed-use and transit-oriented design, and a leader in Sustainable Design practices; and Vinayak Bharne, an Associate with more than 10 years of experience in town planning and community design.
Torti Gallas is the Architect and Planner of over a dozen projects on the West Coast, including military family housing at Naval Complex San Diego, Fort Irwin, Monterey, Moffett Field and Parks Reserve Forces Training Area, California; Pacific Beacon, the first privatized Navy Unaccompanied Personnel Housing project in San Diego; Master Plans for the cities of Redlands and Azusa, California; several urban infill projects in Los Angeles; and the Salishan Neighborhood Revitalization in Tacoma, Washington.
Torti Gallas was established in Silver Spring, Maryland in 1953. Today, with offices in Silver Spring and Los Angeles, the 160-person firm is one of the largest architectural and planning firms focused exclusively around the principles of New Urbanism.
