The Mojave Water Agency (MWA) was founded July 21, 1960, due to concerns over declining groundwater levels. The Agency was created for the explicit purpose of doing any and every act necessary, so that sufficient water may be available for any present or future beneficial use of the lands and inhabitants within the Agency's jurisdiction. The Mojave Water Agency is one of 29 state water contractors that together provide 20 million Californians with drinking water and irrigation water for one million acres of farmland.
