Matra Systems Ltd, a provider of innovative retail software solutions, has been presented with an Audit Certification Award for software compliance by the Federation Against Software Theft (FAST). The Hampshire based company, which has been a FAST member for two years running, sealed its software compliance with FAST following an audit on its 82 PCs running on a Windows network, as well as a complete review under FAST guidance of licensing procedures and policies. Peter Houldsworth, Senior Software/Project Manager at Matra Systems Ltd, commented: "Being able to state we are ‘FAST certified' illustrates to the industry and our customers that we understand, believe in and practice honesty in all of our software dealings, which enhances our credibility." Peter continues: "One of the key benefits of being a FAST member is that it has helped us to understand the legal requirements surrounding software licensing. Also, FAST can advise us on additional procedures we should implement and offers a realistic approach to software management. At present our understanding of how to manage software compliance is growing as quickly as our software environment, which will ensure we remain compliant during future expansion." As a result of the software audit, Matra Systems Ltd has established software registers for licenses purchased and developed for both internal and external use. With each customer purchase order, the company distributes a ‘certificate' for the licence, enabling their customers to measure their own compliance thereby reducing the risk of illegal software. Richard Willmott, head of FAST Corporate Services states: "We are pleased Matra Systems has proven its commitment to software compliance. Companies must not become complacent about software compliance once they have received FAST certification, its an ongoing process. Matra is a great example of one of our members who consistently strives to remain compliant and achieves it." The FAST message remains one of support and assistance but the days of contented businesses with their heads in the sand are over and legality is not optional.
