Summary

Industry:  Membership Organizations

Description
OGP has been publishing safety data since 1985. There have been considerable improvements in industry performance since then, particularly in the Lost Time Injury frequencies (LTIF). Though there have also been improvements in terms of fatalities in recent years, much remains to be done, particularly in the areas of land and air transportation, marine transfer, and lifting & hoisting, as well as diving and marine operations. In addition to focusing on preventing fatal incidents, OGP has also identified the re-occurrence of low frequency significant incidents in and around our industry as an area of concern. As a result, the Safety Committee has set up a Managing Major Incident Risks Task Force to address this from several perspectives. OGP member companies continue to strive to make the E&P industry as safe as practicable. To deliver this in an increasingly global, active and interdependent industry, against a background of a more sophisticated risk profile, the OGP Safety Committee is working to become the foremost point of reference on safety-related matters for the global E&P industry and those who regulate it. In particular, OGP's Safety Committee aims to: Promote the integration of safety into the everyday business of OGP member companies and other E&P companies and contractors Provide safety leadership with cost effectiveness Promote a level playing field for safety that is recognised by the E&P industry and administered by national and global regulatory authorities The Safety Committee achieves this through:Providing practical tools and guidelines to advance safety performance Providing information to, and entering into dialogue with, those intergovernmental authorities that regulate the industry Promoting best practices and the sharing of ,lessons learned' Providing a common, simplified, and effective approach to internal and external issues by working closely with other OGP committees and industry trade associations
