Description
Wheeler Automotive was established in 1921 by William Leslie Wheeler as a Ford dealership located originally in Hampstead, Maryland.

In 1928, Wheeler Automotive became an Overland Willys Whippet dealership. Henry Ford sends 8 Ford tractors to William Wheeler, who said "we're not in the tractor business," and returned them back to Ford.

In 1933, Willys completely downsized their cars and made one small car. The small car was thought to be ugly and not an acceptable product at that time at the Wheeler dealership, and so the compact cars were sent back.

From 1934-1935, Wheeler Automotive sold International Trucks. In 1935 Chevrolet with a full line of trucks replaced International.

During WWII from 1941-1945, few cars were being built and were nationally not often available. Car sales at Wheeler were surpassed by the parts and service departments which keep the business going.

In 1966, the present owner and president of Wheeler Automotive Group, Warren L. Wheeler begins his career in the new and used "Get Ready" department. Now known otherwise as the Prep Department.

In 1974, William Leslie Wheeler passes away, and sons William Fringer Wheeler and Robert Irvin Wheeler transition into President and Vice President.

In 1983, under the direction of Warren L. Wheeler, the Chrysler franchise was partnered into the business.

Wheeler Automotive wins Chrysler's prestigious Five Star award for outstanding customer service performance and business practices.

In 1990, Wheeler sells its Chevrolet franchise in Hampstead to devote company goals on one outstanding dealership location in Westminster.

Wheeler Chrysler celebrates its 75th Anniversary in 1996.
