Sefton Primary Care Trust (PCT) was established on October 1 st 2006, replacing both South Sefton PCT and Southport and Formby PCT. We serve a population of around 280,000 people across Sefton, the most northerly borough of Merseyside, and have an annual budget of around £400 million.

We aim to ensure you find it easy to access the best possible services when you need them. Most of our budget is spent on buying NHS care for local people from a variety of service providers, including other NHS organisations, family doctors, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists and a variety of other healthcare organisations.

We also aim to enable people in Sefton to improve their overall health and wellbeing so that we can all lead healthier, happier lives. We believe that people's health should not suffer because of a lack of resources or opportunities.

We aim to address these challenges by working in partnership with local people, communities, the voluntary sector, Sefton Council and other organisations with an interest in improving health and wellbeing in Sefton.

In addition to securing NHS services on behalf of local people, the PCT also directly provides a wide range of community health services. Most of our 1,400 staff are frontline healthcare professionals providing care to local people through:


57 GP practices
13 health centres
127 dentists
6 community dentists working from 3 health centres
63 pharmacists
37 optometrists
7 children's centres
a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)
a stop smoking service (SUPPORT)
a nurse-led walk-in treatment service at Litherland Town Hall Health Centre.
