Formed in November 2001, Blackbird Productions is owned and operated by Matthew Henderson and Suzie Franke and has fast gained a reputation within Australia as an exciting new innovative theatre company. Blackbird Productions is dedicated to producing and providing high quality entertainment experiences with exceptional production standards that appeal to all age groups and backgrounds.

Independently run, Blackbird Productions have presented over seven productions and ten seasons including two Australasian premieres and commissioned two new works.

In 2005 Blackbird Productions, with the support of Playing Australia, Arts Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria, was able to take the relatively unknown Sydney based stage production, BPM beatsperminute and re-invent it into a nationally recognised product presented to over 25,000 people throughout Australia.

In September 2005, Blackbird Productions were recognised for their work on the tour with four nominations at the annual Drover awards for National Touring, securing the award for 'Road Crew Excellence' at the awards ceremony at Old Parliament House in Canberra.

The company believes in supporting fresh and original work as well as giving an opportunity for Australian audiences to see works from around the world that may not normally get produced in this country.

Blackbird Productions aims to provide opportunities for young theatre workers to develop their skills alongside "seasoned professionals", giving them an outlet to showcase their talents.
