Description
Since 1943 the Chatham-Kent Museum has been dedicated to collecting and preserving the material heritage of Chatham-Kent and to promoting the area's history through exhibits and programming.

For over 60 years, the museum has been selectively acquiring artifacts of local and national significance including 12,000 three dimensional objects, art, over 1000 natural science specimens, 50,000 photographic images, and archival material. Highlights in the collection include artifacts from the War of 1812, a nationally designated Gray Dort automobile, several locally made horse drawn vehicles, and, of course, the world famous Sulman Mummy.

The museum is comprised of a main floor area that currently houses a semi-permanent exhibit entitled "The Essential Chatham-Kent" and a mezzanine gallery that features constantly changing exhibits on a variety of more specific themes. To complement these exhibits, the Chatham-Kent Museum education staff offer a variety of curriculum-based school programs, public programs, and special events.

The museum also maintains an archival collection and research area that is a popular destination for genealogists, authors, researchers, and students. Among the museum's archival and research holdings are several extensive local photograph collections.

Come and enjoy a heritage experience at the Chatham-Kent Museum (or, using the dynamic marketing slogan of Gray Dort: "You Will Like It").

The Chatham-Kent Museum is part of the Chatham Cultural Centre. For more informtion please contact CKccc@chatham-kent.ca.
