The Mayhew offer a Pet Refuge scheme where we may be able to help care for your animal if you find yourself unable to for a limited period of time. In order for us to consider you for this scheme you must live within the M25. With the exception of genuine emergencies, you must give us 2 weeks notice before your animal needs to be cared for. We may be able to help you if you are admitted to hospital, have suffered domestic violence, your house has been damaged by fire/flood etc, or if you are imprisoned. We are only able to assist with eviction cases of owners that live within the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, provided that you can demonstrate you are actively seeking permanent accommodation that allows animals. With all cases, our help is subject to us having adequate foster carers available. Please note that there is a time limit that we consider fair for this scheme, as it can be a unsettling time for your pet. Animal hoarding: The Mayhew is one of the very few animal welfare organisations in the United Kingdom with current knowledge and experience of animal hoarding, The Mayhew aims to increase awareness of this issue and to encourage closer liaison between those involved in dealing with it, for example, officers from social services, environmental health and local council departments and dog wardens. We assist on a practical level to assist animals from hoarding households and provide ongoing aftercare and support to the animals' owner. Neutering: we ensure that all Mayhew animals are neutered and we actively promote neutering wherever possible. We offer low cost neutering to all animals and currently offer free neutering for SBT dogs and any other Bull breeds.
