Description
Ahlers, the logistic and maritime services provider group, headquartered in Antwerp, has established a branch office in India. Ahlers India is headquartered in Chennai, covering - in a first phase - Southern India, with additional offices in Coimbatore and Cochin. Ahlers India starts with some 30 staffmembers.
Managing Director is John Shibu, already successfully and actively involved in the logistic field for over 15 years. The opening of the new office on the Indian subcontinent perfectly fits the international growthstrategy of the group. Ahlers already has an extensive network in Asia, with offices in China, Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam. More then 110 staffmembers are employed in Ahlers' 13 Asian offices. In the trade between Europe and India, Ahlers facilitates industries such as the textile-industry, the furniture-industry and the agriculture-products industry.
"India opens itself to the world more and more and claims it's rank within the worldeconomy very clearly. We simply could not stay absent in this growing market", says Luc Maton, General Manager Asian Subsidiaries Ahlers.
"The establishment of Ahlers India fits the strategy of Ahlers, where the group presents itself as a logistical partner in worldwide growing markets", says Christian Leysen, Chairman of Ahlers.
In line with this expansion Ahlers will implement a new organisational structure with a far-reaching decentralisation to the 3 regions in which Ahlers is active: Europe, Asia and CIS/Baltic States. In this new structure Christian Leysen, Chairman of Ahlers, will play an active role. Fred van Beuningen decided to lay down it's function of CEO mid 2004.
The Board of Directors will further be joined by Philippe Delaunois, Chairman of CFE and Alcopa and former Managing Director of Cockerill Sambre.
