Description
For more than 50 years, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta (TCF) has been committed to supporting emerging and established civic leadership to grow and strengthen our regional citizenry. In 2006, we are honored to partner with the German Marshall Fund (GMF) to coordinate the 2007 Marshall Memorial Fellowship (MMF) selection for the metro Atlanta region. Building on our grantmaking, community leadership, collaboration and social capital research, TCF is pleased to offer emerging and established leaders in Atlanta this exciting opportunity to reinforce Atlanta's civic capacity and connect to the rest of the world.
The Marshall Memorial Fellowship offers emerging leaders, ages 28-40, to explore societies, institutions and people on the other side of the Atlantic. Now in its 24th year, MMF hosts individuals from the political, public, corporate, media and nonprofit sectors for a three to four week travel experience designed to strengthen the transatlantic relationship. Drawn from 19 European countries and the US, more than 1,300 Fellows have participated in the program since its inception in 1982, remaining engaged through annual conferences, meetings, online communications and involvement in other GMF program areas.
American and European Fellows each visit five or six cities and meet formally and informally with a range of policymakers and prominent members of the business, government, political, nonprofit and media communities. GMF works closely with partner institutions and individual consultants in each city, providing Fellows with an invaluable local perspective on the transatlantic and domestic issues on the agenda. Each Fellow also has the opportunity to explore his or her own professional interests beyond the group programs. More information on the German Marshall Fund and the Marshall Memorial Fellowship may be obtained at www.gmfus.org.
TCF will coordinate the selection of up to five Fellows from the Foundation's 23-county service area through a competitive process. Candidates must be nominated for the program by a recognized leader in the community and are required to submit a written application and undergo an interview by a panel of regional civic leaders and former Marshall Fellows. All candidates must be willing and able to travel during the 2007 year and agree to participate in a forum to share their learnings upon return. If accepted, all travel fees as well as miscellaneous costs will be provided.
Once again, we encourage you to download a nomination form to recommend outstanding individuals that you know who would benefit from this opportunity and to share it with others who may know of appropriate candidates. Note that nomination forms must be emailed to mfellows@atlcf.org by August 18, 2006. Once received, we will forward an application to the candidate.
