Description
School Community Data: FBCA offers PreK-12th grades with a current enrollment of 551: 354 in elementary, 73 in junior high, and 124 in high school. Founded in 1993, it is one of the largest college-preparatory schools in the Pasadena area, sponsored by First Baptist Church, Pasadena, with a multi-denominational body of students and faculty.
Accreditation: FBCA is fully accredited, K-12, by ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International), which is TEPSAC/NCPSA approved.
Mission Statement: The mission of First Baptist Christian Academy is to provide academic excellence with a Biblical worldview and to help students develop Christian character and reach their fullest potential.
Admissions: Admission is based on results of standardized testing, previous school records, teacher recommendations, transcripts, entrance testing, and observations during the admissions interview. Students with conduct grades of C or below, suspensions, expulsion, or other disciplinary concerns are not admitted. Those with average or below average achievement test scores or grades of C or below may or may not be admitted, depending on the amount of improvement needed to succeed at FBCA.
Faculty: All teachers have at least a bachelor's degree. Most have state certification, and all are required to become certified through ACSI. Teachers are teaching in their field of study.
Curriculum: Advanced, Christian curriculum is used, with Bob Jones and A Beka Curriculum in junior high and high school, and primarily A Beka in elementary grades. Advanced courses permit honors math and science courses to be offered to juniors and seniors; AP English for juniors and seniors; and dual credit courses at San Jacinto College for juniors and seniors. Elective classes are art, general music, band, choir, drama, Spanish, computers, and journalism.
GPA: The weighted grade point system is used. It is based on students' numeric semester averages in all courses taken. Honors classes are weighted with an extra point added to the GPA for each honors course. Each numeric grade is assigned a different grade point, such as 99 = 4.9 for regular class and 5.9 for an advanced/honors course. The grading scale is:
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 75 - 79
D = 70 - 74
F = 0 - 69
Class Rank: Class rank is determined after completion of the first semester of the senior year and is based on cumulative high school GPA. Only classes taken at FBCA will be included in GPA determinations.
Extracurricular: Students participate and have advanced in regional and state competitions for academics, fine arts, and athletics through ACSI and TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools). Athletic teams are cross country, football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, soccer, and track. On campus high school organizations include National Honor Society, Student Council, and Student Leadership Institute.
Christian Distinctive: Students are challenged to develop a vital, daily walk with the Lord Jesus Christ through Bible classes, chapel services, Christian curriculum, community service, and Godly staff members who are genuine Christian role models.
