Description
PolyServe enables customers to replace large, costly UNIX SMP machines with clusters of highly cost-effective Intel-based servers running either Linux or Windows. UNIX replacement has become a popular way for customers to decrease their infrastructure costs and to improve performance and availability at the same time. Over the past couple of years, Intel based servers have not only been the leaders in price-performance, but also demonstrated absolute performance in excess of many proprietary UNIX chip architectures.

PolyServe is a critical component of any UNIX replacement. In addition to providing fault tolerance and high availability, PolyServe Utilities for Databases and File Serving allow workloads to be scaled out across a cluster of servers. Workloads that in the UNIX world required large SMP servers can now be run on clusters of inexpensive, but very high performance Intel systems.

Reduced Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) , With a PolyServe cluster, customers can reduce their server capital expenditures by up to 85% and drive down their Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by 50-60% as compared to traditional UNIX SMP system. Reduced Operating Expenditures (OPEX) , In the case of PolyServe, a cluster does not mean additional management cost or complexity. PolyServe allows customers to save cost by centrally and efficiently managing their servers, storage, and SAN as a single coherent entity. Increased System Uptime , Customers can build fault tolerant clusters of servers and storage using PolyServe Matrix ServerÔ. PolyServe software ensures that applications continue to function despite a failure anywhere throughout the cluster.

Applications, such as Oracle9i RAC-Windows, Oracle9i RAC-Linux, File Serving (Windows or Linux) are excellent examples of traditional UNIX workloads that can be migrated to cost-effective Intel clusters using PolyServe software.
