Description

Globalstar, Inc. is a provider of mobile voice and data communications services via satellite. Using, at any given time, approximately 48 in-orbit satellites and 25 ground stations, which it refers to as gateways, it offers voice and data communications services in over 120 countries. Of these gateways, 16 are operated by unaffiliated companies, which it refers to as independent gateway operators, and which purchase communications services from the Company on a wholesale basis for resale to their customers. Its principal services are satellite communications services, including mobile and fixed voice and data services and asset tracking, and monitoring services. It also sells the related voice and data equipment to its customers. In March 2008, it closed the transaction with Loral Space & Communications Inc. and various affiliated entities to purchase the Brazilian Globalstar independent gateway operator, which owns and operates three satellite gateway ground stations in Brazil.
