Howard said his restaurants would actually lower prices if lawmakers would create a tip credit similar to those in 43 other states.
The tip credit allows restaurant owners to pay wait staff and other tipped employees a certain percentage below minimum wage , based on the average tip income of those workers.
Such a credit would still put servers earnings ahead of their counterparts in the kitchen , but the gap would be narrower.
