Werner Enterprises Inc. is a transportation and logistics company engaged in hauling truckload shipments of general commodities in both interstate and intrastate commerce. It also provides logistics services through the Value Added Services (VAS) division. During the year ended December 31, 2007, the Company had a fleet of 8,250 trucks, of which 7,470 were owned by it and 780 were owned and operated by owner-operators (independent contractors). It operated 24,855 trailers, which comprised of 23,109 dry vans, 501 flatbeds and 1,245 temperature-controlled trailers. The segments of the Company include Truckload Transportation Services (Truckload) and VAS. The types of freight transported by the Company include retail store merchandise, consumer products, manufactured products and grocery products.
