Summary

Description
The mission of the Tulsa Historical Society is to illuminate the past, enrich the present, and inspire future generations by collecting, preserving, and presenting Tulsa's history.

Established in 1963, the Tulsa Historical Society holds an extensive collection of resources on our city's rich past. The collection contains nearly 5,000 still photographs, books, maps, documents, graphics, historical costumes and architectural remnants, and fine and decorative arts.

From 1985 until 1998, the Society had its headquarters in the Thomas Gilcrease house on the grounds of Gilcrease Museum. In December of 1997, with funds made available through the Tulsa Tribune Foundation, the Society purchased the historic Samuel Travis Mansion off Peoria Avenue, just south of the Tulsa Garden Center. The mansion has been expanded renovated to serve as the Society's new home.

The Society currently exhibits artifacts from its collection in the expanded facility at the Travis Mansion. The collection is also available to researchers by appointment.

The Society manages information requests from the public, provides lectures for schools and civic groups, exhibits collection materials and sponsors educational programs.

In addition to the Tulsa Hall of Fame program held each fall, the Society receives funding from corporate and private donations as well as membership fees.

Tulsa Historical Society is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
