Thomas McGee, L.C. was founded by the company's namesake in 1910 as a general insurance agency, with offices in the Lee Building at 10th and Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri. Thomas McGee was originally in partnership with two friends and the agency's first name was Corrigan, Madden, and McGee.

The firm flourished and Thomas McGee purchased the interests of his partners, and the firm became known as Thomas McGee & Son, when his son Joseph entered the firm in 1913. Later with the entrance of Frank McGee in 1919 and Louis McGee in 1920, the firm became Thomas McGee & Sons. In 1995, the structure of the firm was changed from a partnership to a Limited Liability Company and the name was changed to Thomas McGee, L.C.

The current Members of Thomas McGee, L.C. are: Tom English, Doug Joyce, Larry Kaminsky, and Gene Klein.
