Description
The Coho Society is an environmental, volunteer-based organization registered under the Society Act of BC. The Mandate of the Society is to raise funds for salmonid enhancement education and protection of North Shore and vicinity streams and rivers. The Society is managed by a Board of Directors representing the North Shore Councils and School Boards, the Greater Vancouver Regional District, Squamish Nation, Fisheries & Oceans Canada, North Vancouver and West Vancouver Chambers of Commerce.
Now entering its 24th year, the Coho Society is a volunteer, environmentally based organization committed to raising public awareness and protecting North Shore salmon streams and rivers.
To meet its objectives, the Society takes a leading role with business, government, education and environmental groups in promoting public awareness and understanding of fisheries as an important and vital natural resource.
The Society's planning and organizing for the year culminates with the Coho Festival, staged annually in Ambleside Park and at other North Shore locations in September.
