Cyberonics, Inc. is a neuromodulation company engaged in designing, developing selling and marketing of medical devices that provide Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy, for the treatment of epilepsy and depression. VNS Therapy System includes a generator to provide the appropriate stimulation to the vagus nerve, a lead that is attached to both the generator and the vagus nerve, associated equipment to assist with necessary implantation surgery, instruction manuals and magnets to suspend or induce stimulation manually. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the VNS Therapy System for use as an adjunctive therapy in patients over 12 years of age in reducing the frequency of partial onset seizures that are refractory or resistant to antiepileptic drugs.
