The recruiting industry continues to evolve, offering exciting new options on how recruiters can find the best candidates. This month we focus on best practices in online recruiting. Our main article, by David Teten, serial entrepreneur and CEO of Nitron Advisors, (http://www.teten.com/), talks about how you can find a star employee in online networks. Mr. Teton is coauthor of the book, Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors and Closing Deals Online. This book is the first mass market guide to “social software” such as blogs, social network sites, virtual communities and other tools people use to connect with one another online. Learn how you can take advantage of “social software” to fill important positions. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions.

Finding Your Star Employee in Online Networks: Accolo, Microsoft, and Nitron Advisors
By David Taten
CEO of Nitron Advisors

Your dream employee is lurking out there. How do you find her/him? Recruiters have been among the most aggressive users of online networks, such as blogs, virtual communities, social network sites, and biography analysis software tools. To explore best practices for recruiters, we'll analyze case studies using four methods: referrals, blogs, biographical analysis, and online communities.

Referrals (and courtesy to referrals): Accolo, which is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, recently won 2005 Recruitment Process Outsourcer of the Year at the HRO World Conference in New York. Accolo has created a confidential referral network comprised primarily of people who have applied to their jobs in the past.
