If you caught Kevin Wheeler's recent ERE article, you already know about the rising popularity of recruiting blogs. At ZoomInfo, we’ve been advocates of recruiting blogs for several years now, and recently sponsored RecruitingBlogs.com's "Best of 2007" awards. We believe blogs help accelerate the exchange of ideas and flow of information and that the entire recruiting industry benefits from this.

One of the hot topics in the recruiting blogosphere today is passive candidate recruiting. Increased competitive pressure, the impending retirement of the baby boomers, active candidates' increased visibility, and even the shortage of university students pursuing careers in science and engineering have all been cited as problems that passive candidate recruiting can help solve. But is passive candidate recruiting really the panacea that proponents claim it is?

In this month's ZoomInformer, industry commentator Amitai Givertz gives us a unique perspective on passive candidate recruiting, when it can be useful, and how companies can use it to create a sustainable competitive advantage.

I hope you enjoy the article.

Passive candidate recruiting: What’s all the fuss about?

Passive candidate recruiting is generating plenty of buzz among industry observers, vendors and employers. For recruiters in the trenches, the debate raises important questions like, "What's all the fuss about and why is this important to me?" and "How does recruiting passive candidates help build competitive advantage?"

Simple answers to these questions are hard to come by. The competing interests of those in the recruiting industry along with the differences in employers' shape, size and markets makes a one-size-fits-all solution impossible to imagine.

PowerSearch Tips

Start Your Search

Frequently Used Criteria, located on the left side of the PowerSearch home page, is a good place to start your search. Frequently Used Criteria allows you to search by Title and/or Company Name/Ticker and/or Industry and/or Limit by Title Hierarchy. You can enter criteria into one of these search fields or all of them, depending on how specific you'd like to make your search.

TIP: To find candidates at your target companies, start by entering a company name in the Company Name/Ticker field and click Search. You can also add a combination of title and industry.

TIP: Within each of these fields, you have the option of searching by Keywords or you can use our Directory/Lookup (these icons are located to the far right of the search category). Typically, using a combination of the Frequently Used Criteria search fields (e.g. Industry and Title) will return the best results.

TRICK: To eliminate extraneous results from companies with similar names, use Lookup in the Company Name/Ticker field. If Lookup is already selected, click on the binoculars to re-run the search. This will allow you to choose only the company you want to search.
